Tell us about you and your family.
My husband and I have been married for almost 8 years and have two sons, ages 4 and 2, who are full of energy!
How did you get started with blogging?
I started Life With Captain Fussybuckets in April of 2011 when we were between jobs and Baby D was four months old. I needed a creative outlet so I didnt lose my mind. 🙂
Tell us about your blog. What is your vision for it?
My blog is random at times. I started it with the vision of talking about my family and spreading the word about stuff that we loved. It has evolved into a place where I share recipes, crafts, stories, pictures and our adventures in going green. My vision for the future is to just keep doing what I am doing and becoming a better blog in general.
Do you have a favorite post you’ve written? Why is it your favorite?
I love this silly post because its about my realization as a mother that I need to chill out!
What recommendations do you have for someone who’s thinking about starting a blog?
Read a few blogs first. Note what you like about them and what you dont. Then, form a plan and calculate how much its going to cost. Think about a name and search to make sure it hasnt been taken yet. Then, dive in! Buy the domain name, hire a designer, and start writing!
What social media account will I likely find you on throughout the day? Why is it your social media platform of choice?
Im on Facebook all day, but I dont post anything unless its really important to me.
Have you always been “green” or was there something that set you on that journey?
Oh no.Ive only been green for about a year. I read Little Changes by Kristi Marsh and it changed my way of thinking and our lives! Thank goodness she needed a book review!!
What is your favorite thing about being green? Why?
Just feeling better! I feel better about what our family eats, drinks, participates in and I feel better about the time well spent with my family.
What tips you do you have for other moms who want to go green?
Start small and make little changes. Theres no need to throw away everything in your house and start over. Start with the pantry and go from there. Then head to your makeup bag, etc. Every step counts.
How do you teach your children to play an active role in being an eco-friendly family?
I talk with them about why we do what we do and why we dont eat what others eat. They know all about organic, GMOs, HFCS, etc. We also garden together, talk about not wasting and how good home cooked meals are. 🙂
What is the funniest reaction someone has had to your “crunchy” ways?
I think some people are humored because they know how we used to live, but most people have been very supportive and interested in what were doing.
What do you enjoy doing outside of blogging?
Gardening, parenting, cooking, going to church and being with my sweet family!
