Eco-Friendly Vacations in the UK

With summer just around the corner, it would not be long before you find yourself planning your next family vacation to enjoy the sunshine this time of year.

At the same time, this would also be the period of spring and summer weddings, which means that someone from your family or friends could be getting married or that you would soon find yourself being invited to that one coworker’s hen or stag do.

If you are the one planning the vacation or the hen or stag do, then the responsibility of finding comfortable, affordable and spacious accommodations might seem daunting to you. If you or the people in your circle are rightfully mindful of the environment as well, then it would just be that much harder to find a place which fulfills all of your requirements of finding an eco-friendly vacation space.

Finding big houses to rent for a family vacation or party houses to occupy for a “hen or stag do” while also ensuring that they are eco-friendly is indeed, a trickier matter.

However, with green building and construction now gaining traction, it is getting easier to find accommodations which are both environment and budget friendly. You just have to know how to point out viable lodgings that fit the bill.

While searching for an eco-friendly space to occupy, there are a few key elements that would tell you right from the start whether your temporary abode houses the traits which you and your party yearn to have in it.

Energy and Water

A very basic start to the checklist, this is also the largest contributing factor towards deciding whether a house terms to be eco-friendly.

One of the key elements of environment friendly housing is for it to be mindful of the planet by not wasting its resources. By ensuring what type of energy source and water filtration system does the accommodation use, you can vet out a large chunk of those listings which use non-renewable energy or have a non-eco-friendly water treatment mechanism.

Appliances and Fixtures

This is the second most easily implementable green solution for any housing, and should therefore tell you whether the owners of the offered accommodations are serious toward the aspect of being eco-friendly.

Eco-friendly appliances use less energy than their conventional counterparts and thus leave a decreased carbon footprint on the planet. Similarly, an eco-friendly house usually also has lightning and water fixtures which are geared towards conserving as much resources as possible by utilizing less energy and water wherever applicable.

Architecture

This is also a big factor towards selecting eco-friendly housing, whether you are finalizing it for a long family vacation or a fun weekend.

An eco-friendly house has a spacious outline which is well-insulated, well-lit through natural light, and one that also houses lots of greens in the form of trees and plants (if it has the space for it).

Plus, houses that have been built recently with an eco-friendly approach in mind also use bio-degradable material such as soy-based insulation instead of fiberglass.

Finding the Balance Is Not Difficult

While the trait of being completely eco-friendly with renewable utilities; conservation-friendly appliances and fixtures; and cozy yet environment-happy architecture is hard to find all at once, especially in houses built a few years ago, finding older spaces which have been modified to be as eco-friendly as possible is not that difficult.

Realistically speaking, you might have to bargain on a few niche elements of eco-friendliness while looking for the perfect vacation home. However, being pragmatic in your approach would certainly help you in striking the perfect balance between comfortable and environment-friendly accommodations.
