Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim, a state in India. The magical beauty of Gangtok makes it the ideal getaway for tourists. Honeymooners will be charmed by the magnificent sights and wonders of this town. The capital is characterized by hilly terrain. You can expect to find breath-taking views of the Himalayan mountain range, hot springs, lakes, mountain streams, wonderful meadows and river valleys. Gangtok boasts wildlife and around 5000 flower varieties. Nature lovers will be spoilt for choice. What’s more, this peaceful capital perfectly blends different ethnicities and cultures.

While in this beautiful capital, you can visit the picturesque and panoramic mountain hamlets. Gangtok has great and spectacular views of the snow peaks of the Himalayan and Kanchenjunga. The mountain charm is complemented by modern amenities and great food further making your visit unforgettable. The city is also renowned for forest trails, nature trails and the waterfalls of Jhakri. They are truly a sight to behold. Other tourist attractions are gardens, museums, zoos, parks, sanctuaries, monasteries amongst others. There are many activities to keep you entertained throughout your stay in the capital: from paragliding to riding in cable cars and touring the city to rafting in river Teesta and more.

The heart and soul of this town is Mahatma Gandhi Road. This road has been declared a smoke free zone. It is also impressively litter free. Vehicles are not allowed in this part of town. There are beautiful shops, bars and restaurants lined up on either side of the road. In addition, benches are perfectly laid out on the road sides as well as in the middle of the road. Here you can sit down and relax after a day of touring the capital. In the evenings, tasteful Victorian lamps light up the dark streets of Gangtok.

Tour operators can also offer you packaged tours at different budgets. Helicopter services are available from Bagdogra airport to the capital.  Worried about getting your luggage to your destination? There are plenty of yaks to help you with that.

The hospitality in Gangtok is enviable. The locals are very receptive and welcoming to visitors. The capital pretty much accommodates different budgets and tastes. All in all, there is something for everyone.
