How to Make Your Next Outdoor Event Eco-Friendly

Hosting an event outdoor offers a number of benefits. Being outdoors might expose you to the natural elements, which can sometimes throw a spanner in the works, but it is also a setting that encourages socializing, and which will set your event apart from the usual boring indoor affairs. Being outdoors means that you will have plenty of space.

One of the biggest drawbacks to hosting an event outdoors is that it can cause a lot of damage to the local environment. If you’ve ever been to a major music festival, then you will have already seen first hand just how much waste and rubbish a large group of people can generate. Fortunately, for those who are considerate and willing to spend a little extra time planning beforehand, making your next outdoor event an eco-friendly one is much easier than many people seem to realize.

Here are some of the simplest yet most effective things that you can do to improve the green credentials of an outdoor event.

Choose Your Venue Carefully

The first and most important consideration for your event should be the location. If you want to minimize the impact that your event has on the environment, especially any local ecosystems, then the venue that you choose makes a big difference. Be sure to check what the local wildlife situation is; you don’t want your event to disturb the ecosystem that currently exists there. In many cases, it will be easy enough to make sure that your event doesn’t encroach upon any wildlife that is there, but you will need to exercise some care.

Consider Public Transport

After you have considered the distance that attendees will have to travel, the next question is how everyone gets there. If at all possible, you should try to host your event reasonably near to those who will be attending, so that you can minimize the environmental cost of travel to your event. If your event is large enough then you might want to look into whether you can arrange for a coach or similar service to bring people in.

If your event isn’t going to be big enough to justify hiring transport, you should still try and choose a location that is easy to reach via public transport (and maybe a little walking or cycling).

Hire the Necessary Amenities

As mentioned earlier, the amount of waste left behind after a music festival gives an indication of how much waste is generated by people. In addition to all the rubbish resulting from food, drink, and other products people use, you will also need to arrange for restrooms. These don’t need to be the nightmarish little cubicles that many people imagine; check out Satellite Suites for some more luxurious options.

Next time you find yourself preparing an outdoor event, make sure that you give appropriate consideration to the environmental impact that such events can have. Making your next event more environmentally friendly isn’t difficult; it is simply a case of making sure that you prepare adequately beforehand.
