Helping Your Child Cope With Online School
Times are changing and changes aren’t always the easiest on a child. Many children are faced with online schooling and this can be a difficult transition.
Dealing with online school for your child is new territory for most of us. Although there might be some hoops to jump through, with effective parent child communication, you and your child will be able to get through these rough waters and may even grow closer.
Be Patient
This applies to both you and your child. You must be patient with yourself on learning the ropes of online learning and you must expect the same from your child.
Children tend to need a routine to thrive best and it may be hard to continue with a strong routine while participating in online school.
However, by talking with your child about setting up a routine that works for both of you will help them excel. Many teachers and schools are trying to establish a routine for their students. So, as a parent, you must do your part and try your best to follow a routine for your child.
Communicate
Communicating with your child openly and honestly is extremely important as they grow. And now with everything going on and all of the changes with schooling and activities, sparking conversations with your child is more important than ever.
Take the time to listen to their feelings and fears. Let them know that you are unsure of things as well, but that together you will be able to conquer anything.
Keep in mind that it isn’t just about what you say, but how you say it.
Be Open
Unfortunately, now is the time that you have to accept that change is inevitable. This means you need to be open to change to set an example for your child.
All of these changes are going to be harder on your child than you as they are just learning coping skills.
Showing that you are in control of the situation and take everything in stride can help your child follow in the same footsteps.
